Utaura" is an ancient Japanese form of divination using waka poems. Since the poem "Yaegaki" written by Susanoo-no-mikoto, Japanese deities are believed to compose waka poems, and their omikuji (divination by waka poems) is believed to be the source of fortune telling. This "waka fortune-telling," which is the origin of omikuji (fortune-telling) and an ancient and venerable Japanese divination based on waka poems, was actively practiced until the Edo period (1603-1868).
